NordVPN is a well-audited, feature-heavy consumer VPN for people who want a no-logs provider with an independent audit trail and built-in extras on top of the tunnel. Its strengths are the repeated Deloitte no-logs assessments, Cure53 app audits, and a bundled Threat Protection suite; its weaknesses are promo prices that jump at renewal, features gated into pricier tiers, and an incident history (a 2018 server breach and a 2022 lawful-requests disclosure) you should know about before you buy.

What the independent audits say

NordVPN's audit trail is unusually long, so here is what is actually on record.

No-logs assurance (Deloitte, ISAE 3000). NordVPN has completed two recent no-logs assessments: a fifth, with fieldwork Nov 18–Dec 20, 2024, and a sixth, with fieldwork Nov 10–Dec 12, 2025. Both are ISAE 3000 assurance engagements by Deloitte Audit Lithuania, and the full PDFs are distributed to subscribers through Nord Account. This is the audit most people mean when they talk about NordVPN's no-logs claims.

App and extension security (Cure53). Berlin-based Cure53 has performed penetration tests and source assessments of NordVPN's apps and browser extensions. The published report records no critical findings, with high- and medium-severity issues patched and re-verified. The Cure53 report PDF is linked directly in the sources below.

Threat-blocking claims (AV-TEST, AV-Comparatives). NordVPN's Threat Protection Pro feature was evaluated by AV-TEST in a VPN comparative study, and the anti-phishing layer carries an AV-Comparatives certification (90–96% phishing URL block with zero false positives in the cited rounds). These are vendor-reported test results, not our own.

One honesty note that applies to all of the above: audit facts are company-published claims relayed through press or press-adjacent pages, unless the underlying auditor PDF is linked. The Cure53 report is linked; the Deloitte assessments are distributed via Nord Account rather than a public URL.

Where it falls short

The honest negatives, stated plainly:

2018 server incident. NordVPN disclosed a third-party rented-server breach from 2018 (an expired key on a Finland server). It was disclosed and remediated, but it is part of the record and still cited in coverage.
2022 lawful-requests disclosure. In January 2022, NordVPN quietly edited a 2017 blog post to say it would comply with lawful requests. The no-logs stance was maintained, but the change drew community backlash and coverage focused on its Netherlands/EU parent company.
Promo-to-renewal jump. Introductory pricing is the headline; renewal pricing is higher, which is the most common cost complaint on record.
Feature gating. Useful add-ons (Threat Protection Pro, password manager) are gated into the Plus and Complete tiers, so the lowest advertised price does not include them.

Who should (and shouldn't) use it

Use it if you want a VPN with an independently audited no-logs claim, you use it across many devices and want the bundled extras (threat protection, password manager), and you are comfortable with a Panama-registered company whose operations are based in Lithuania (Nord Security).

Jurisdiction and privacy posture. NordVPN S.A. is registered in Panama; its parent, Nord Security (Nordsec B.V.), is based in the Netherlands after the 2022 Surfshark merger, and main operations are run from Vilnius, Lithuania. For readers who track jurisdictions, that means the no-logs claim is the load-bearing part of the privacy posture — Panama is outside the 14-Eyes surveillance alliance, but the Netherlands/EU parent is not, which is exactly the tension the 2022 lawful-requests episode surfaced. The published record treats the no-logs stance as maintained.

Skip it if the monthly subscription model and higher renewal rate are a dealbreaker, if you only need a bare tunnel with nothing extra, or if the Netherlands/EU parent structure bothers you — a lighter or differently structured provider may fit better.
