NordPass is a zero-knowledge password manager from the Nord Security family for people who want a simple, audited vault with a generous free tier and EU/GDPR jurisdiction. Its strengths are Cure53 security audits, ISO/SOC 2 certifications, and a genuinely usable free tier; its weaknesses are a free tier limited to one active session, paywalled health/breach/sharing features, and — as our research scan flags — the absence of any major surfaced controversy is not the same as proof there is none.
What the independent audits say
Cure53 audits. Cure53 performed two engagements: a 2020 audit of the B2C app (which verified the XChaCha20 zero-knowledge design) and a 2021 B2B ecosystem audit (21 person-days covering apps, extensions, and the admin panel). Certifications. NordPass holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and a SOC 2 Type 2 attestation, per the attestation page linked in the sources.
Zero-knowledge design. NordPass's vault is designed so servers hold only encrypted blobs — the encryption keys never leave the device in a form the server can use. That is a design claim from the vendor's legal and privacy documentation, not something we verified hands-on.
The honest caveat. Our research scan found no major independent controversy, and explicitly flags that absence ≠ none. A clean scan is not proof of a spotless record; it is what one research pass found. The negative-record framing on this page should be read that way.

Where it falls short
- Free tier is limited to one active session. The free version works on a single active session, which is restrictive if you use multiple devices. That is the main free-tier limitation on record.
- Features are paywalled. Health, breach, and sharing features are gated behind Premium. The free tier is a password vault, not the full product.
- No major controversy surfaced — flagged as absence ≠ none. This is an explicit honesty flag from our research scan, not a claim of a perfect record.
Who should (and shouldn't) use it
Use it if you want an audited, zero-knowledge password manager under EU/GDPR jurisdiction, you're on a budget (the free tier is genuinely usable), or you're already inside the Nord Security ecosystem.
Jurisdiction and privacy posture. NordPass is built by Nord Security in Vilnius, Lithuania — an EU/GDPR jurisdiction. The vault is zero-knowledge by design: servers hold only encrypted blobs, so the provider's stated position is that it cannot read stored passwords. The encryption design is what the Cure53 audits verified, and the ISO/SOC 2 certifications speak to the operational controls around it.
Skip it if you need more than one active session on the free tier, you want health/breach/sharing features without paying, or you prefer a password manager whose record has been independently stress-tested in public coverage — our scan found little public controversy, and that is a scan result, not a guarantee. As with everything on this page, this is audit- and dataset-sourced guidance, not a first-hand test.
